Hunting down ancestors.
Another eventful tour was with a mother and her daughter ancestor hunting. What fun it is being Sherlock Holmes touring the West Country, visiting churches, cemeteries and parish records offices tracing births, marriages and deaths. We even enlisted the help of the local constabulary who were very obliging. Once we had struck gold, so to speak, and found a whole dynasty of their family buried in one particular cemetery, we indulged ourselves by visiting beautiful gardens and stately homes, and refreshing ourselves on the long hot days with lunches in the gardens and cream teas in the afternoons. It is very satisfying to plan a tour with days in London and out in the country. Whilst London is (I think) the most beautiful and interesting city in the world, too often it is considered to be the blue print for the whole of Britain. What fun it is listening to the local accents which vary enormously around the country.
